JIM MEREDITH

James Meredith is one of the Bay Area's fine classical music artists.  As a solo pianist, vocal and instrumental accompanist and conductor in America, Europe and Asia, his work has brought him to work with Elly Ameling, Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Eleanor Steber, Evelyn Lear, and Gerald Moore. He is a musical partner with mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade and dramatic soprano, Olivia Stapp.  He also conducts the country's acclaimed Sonos Handbell Ensemble and is recorded on nationally recognized CDs.

A native of North Carolina, Mr. Meredith received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University.  For four years he was assistant to pianist Dalton Baldwin in summer art song masterclasses at the French Conservatory in Nice. Concerts with Ms. Von Stade included an appearance on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" reaching a National Public Radio audience of over two million listeners and two concerts with Sonos in a premiere of Libby Larsen’sHell’s Belles. He has been the conductor of the Oakland Symphony Chorus, was on the faculty of Merritt College, taught masterclasses at Holy Names College and San Jose State University and was Festival Opera chorus master for two seasons.
Jim has been featured in recent Masterclasses alongside Frederica Von Stade, with whom he will again be performing this coming December, 2018, at Stanford University. The concert will be held alongside young singers from his Young Musicians program, a scholarship organization in Berkeley that fosters the lives of young classical musicians and sees them through to college and conservatory enrollment with substantial and full scholarships, Jim's most latest passion and undertaking.
